Back-PAK Discectomy Set: Easier Access to Comprosmised Disc Space?

A new surgical instrumentation system will hit the markets soon. According to a press release from manufacturer Atlas Spine, the Back-PAK Discectomy Set will be launched this month. Back-PAK DS is designed for use in discectomy procedures and implant site preparation.

Atlas Spine has not released any specific information regarding the Back-Pak system, and design elements have not been reported publicly. According to a company press release, it is designed to “maximize efficiency and provide optimum weight, balance, feel and control” for orthopaedic surgeons. They also state that it is less invasive, allowing for preservation of bone and easier access to compromised disc space.

Feedback from surgeons has been extremely positive. Says product designer Matt Baynham, “An evolution of this kind in standard surgical instruments is rare. The Back-PAK DS was developed as a result of years of experience, observation and the necessity to improve the technology of common instruments, consistent with advances in surgical techniques.”

Atlas Spine is also the maker of the Verteview(TM) Cervical Plating System, Stature(TM) VBR and Rebar(TM) VBR.
